摘要：
The reduction of plant operating costs is the joint responsibility of maintenance and design managements. Problem areas are usually identified by maintenance engineers while design engineers have the responsibility of effecting improvements. A method is outlined for enabling the available design resources to be effectively directed towards the reduction of operating costs. The expected costs are used in conjunction with a utility function which takes into account plant profitability.
