EPR OF A VO2+-DOPED MG(ND4)2(SO4)2.6D2O SINGLE-CRYSTAL - ORIGIN OF SUPERHYPERFINE INTERACTION IN VO2+-DOPED HYDRATED TUTTON SALTS

X-band (approximately 9.5 GHz) EPR measurements have been carried out on a single crystal of VO2+-doped deuterated Tutton slat, Mg(ND4)2(SO4)2.6D2O (MDSD), in the temperature range 113-410 K. A comparison of EPR spectra of VO2+-doped MDSD with those in the hydrated Tutton salts M(NH4)2(SO4)2.6H2O (M = Cd, Mg, Zn) confirms that the VO2+ superhyperfine splittings in the hydrated samples are, indeed, due to the interaction between the unpaired electron of the VO2+ ion and the ligand protons in the [VO(H2O)5]2+ complex.
