Pediatric hand and wrist fractures

Pediatric and adolescent hand and wrist fractures are extremely common. This review highlights the most recent literature pertaining to these widespread injuries. A new closed reduction and percutaneous pinning technique for phalangeal neck fractures is reviewed as well as the current trends in pediatric and adolescent wrist fractures. Current fracture patterns and union rates of pediatric and adolescent scaphoid fractures are reviewed. The results of nonoperative treatment for overriding distal radial metaphyseal fractures is presented as well as the risk factors associated with loss of reduction after closed reduction maneuvers for displaced distal radial fractures.
