摘要
This Letter is concerned with the theoretical investigation of the application of a magnetic field perpendicular to the axis of twist in an infinite sample of cholesteric liquid crystal. We use the continuum theory for cholesterics to determine the forms that the sample may take and distinguish between these by use of energy comparisons. A rigorous mathematical justification of the result by de Gennes is then presented.
