摘要
Compression and coding ICs for still images based on DCT (Discrete Cosine Transform) have been developed using a new algorithm for bit-rate control[1][2]. This paper describes these ICs. The JPEG (Joint Photographic Expert Group) has worked for international standardization of compression and coding methods for continuous-tone still images. The compression and coding method used in these ICs conforms to the JPEG standard. These ICs have been developed for a digital still camera system using memory cards as the recording medium, and they have a bit-rate control function in order to guarantee the number of images recorded on a card. These ICs have applications not only in a digital still camera system, but also in other still image systems.
