Although, numerous studies about nutrient solution have been made for a long time, in order to characterize the damage caused by aluminum in the roots of plants of rice, it is still incipient studies on rice cultivars of groups modern intermediary and traditional. In light of the above, this study investigated the responses of cultivars of rice, on the root growth, development of shoots from different levels of aluminum in nutrient solution. The experiment was conducted in nutrient solution in greenhouse, on Department of Plant Production of FCA, UNESP, Campus de Botucatu, SP. The experimental design was completely random with four replicates, using a 3 x 4 factorial design, with three cultivars of rice (BRS Talento, Caiapo and Primavera) and four levels of aluminum in nutrient solution (0.0, 10.0, 20.0 and 40.0 mg L-1). Those results, it has been concluded that: Primavera cultivar (intermediate group) has a root system more tolerant to aluminum toxicity, while the 'BRS Talent' (modern group) was more sensitive. The root system, the dry mass of roots, shoots and the total are good indicators of tolerance to Al3+
