LOCAL HYPERTHERMIA IN CHRONIC, NONBACTERIAL PROSTATITIS

In a prospective randomized placebo-controled study the value of transrectal hyperthermia of the prostate in treating chronic nonbacterial prostatitis was determined in 40 patients. Treatment was carried out with the Tecnomatix Primus(R) 6 times in 3 to 4-day intervals for 60 minutes at 43-degrees-C/37.5-degrees-C. The subjective benefit was recorded on a score sheet. The parameters uroflow, prostate volume and amount of residual urine were measured. The results showed a subjective benefit in both the placebo-controlled and the treated group. There was no statistically significant difference. In neither group were the clinical parameters affected by the hyperthermia.
