摘要：

This article discusses conceptually the economic dynamics of innovation and knowledge appropriation in general and its application to agricultural R&D. It deals with intellectual property as an institution that facilitates the control, valorization and circulation of assets based on innovations. Using the neo-schumpeterian conceptual framework, the article discusses the implications of intellectual property applied to innovations in agriculture. It takes into account the several forms of protection of intellectual property rights (industrial property, copyrights and sui generis), as well as economic mechanisms of protection (business strategies, user producer relationship, distribution networks, among others), emphasizing the complementarities between such forms and mechanisms in protecting agriculture innovations.
