THE LONG-TERM SAFETY OF REPOSITORIES

The results of safety assessments expressed as risks or doses may be taken only as indicators of the safety of a repository system over prolonged periods of time. Using a combination of safety indicators together with natural analogs can make a major contribution towards reducing uncertainties in long-term safety assessment. In this report, an isolation potential is demonstrated for the German Konrad and Gorleben repository projects which extends from the genesis of the host rock and of the geological system to the present. Comparable studies of other sites are unable, for that reason, to result in findings better than these.
