摘要：

This paper discusses the development of iconics at the State Optical Institute during the past five years and its conversion into a new scientific paradigm for the comprehensive description and investigation of images. The maximum-information-action principle is formulated, on the basis of which a procedure has been laid out for finding the optimum image-transformation operators under the conditions of limited a priori information. A sample calculation is given.
