A BRIEF REVIEW OF FOUNDATION CONSTRUCTION IN THE WESTERN CANADIAN ARCTIC

摘要：
The design and construction of foundations in permafrost imposes additional problems brought about by a surface that has a temperature below freezing all year round. Therefore, consideration must be given to the temperature profile in the subsurface, its variation with time and any changes imposed on it, as well as to strength and deformation properties of the frozen soils. The article discusses these considerations and their application in various foundation schemes, including pile foundations, spread footings and highway construction. Refs.
