Biochemical markers and force cardiovascular test on metabolic syndrome

The metabolic syndrome (MS) has endothelial dysfunction, and an abnormal release of endothelial markers, such as: Nitric Oxide (NO) and endothelin-I (EI). Exercise is a physiological stress regulated by the CNS, and its effects on the release of endothelial markers in the MS have not been well studied. The goal of the study was to measure levels of NO and IE in blood of people with MS; during they were exercising, and compared with normal individuals. In order to perform the study 50 people, of both sexes, with MS and 50 normal were selected. They history, physical examination, anthropometrics, echocardiography, lipid profile and basal insulin were determined. It was also performed: stress test (measured continuously), and simultaneously was took electrocardiogram, blood pressure, O2 saturation, [maximal oxygen consumption, ventilation (V) and anaerobic threshold (UAN]. The blood samples were taken for the ON and EI determination at the beginning, after UAN and to the completion of the test. The determination of mean +/- standard deviation was performed using the statistical package SPSS version 19, a one-way ANOVA was performed with statistical significance at p < 0.05. It was observed a decreasing of the nitric oxide and a non significant increasing of the endothelin-1 with statistical significance p < 0.05 as a result of the stress test in those patients diagnosed with metabolic syndrome. These results could be an early marker that can be used in patients during its exercise, as a possible predictor of cardiovascular risk.
