Influence of Biomimetic Laser Shock Peening on the Crack Resistance and Residual Fatigue Life of Aluminum Alloys

Abstract: The influence of biomimetic laser shock peening on the crack resistance and residual fatigue life of 2024-T351 aluminum alloy samples is investigated. The biomimetic parameters for treatment are determined by structural analysis of cherry leaves. On that basis a finite-element 3D model is developed. It is found that the stress intensity in the samples declines on biomimetic treatment, with consequent increase in residual fatigue life. © 2022, Allerton Press, Inc.
