Polycondensation ampholytes with static exchange capacities of 6.2 mg-equiv/g for 0.1 N H2SO4 and 3.1 mg-equiv/g for 0.1 N NaOH can be prepared from shale phenols (a mixture of alkylresorcinols). © 2007 Allerton Press, Inc.
