Fast magnetic injection and extraction kickers for NSLS-II booster synchrotron

Nanosecond non-vacuum ferrite kickers have been developed by the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics to implement single-turn injection and extraction from the NSLS-II booster synchrotron (Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), United States). The kickers have short pulsed magnetic field fronts of ∼150 ns and a flat-top duration of 300 ns at an instability as high as 0.2%. The design of the kicker magnets comprising ceramic vacuum chambers with longitudinal titanium nitride strips deposited inside them is described. Results of bench tests of the kickers are presented: oscillograms of the current pulse in bus bars, the waveform of the pulsed magnetic field, and transverse distribution of the longitudinal field integral in the kicker aperture.
