Formation of a unified displacement field via the combining of vector fields in the measurement of deformation materials

This work is aimed at enlarging the inspected surface of a material in measurements of displacement fields and deformation by the digital-image correlation method. The fundamental possibility of determining the overlap (shift) coordinates of vector fields is shown. An algorithm for the matching of vector fields in the process of their union is proposed. The influence of the additive error with normal and uniform probability densities on the precision of the calculated shift coordinates is numerically modeled. The opportunity of sewing vector fields in the process of scanning by the “sliding window” algorithm method is considered. The fundamental opportunity of estimating the current mechanical state by the specimen-scale measurement of the plastic deformation is illustrated using the example of the multicycle fatigue of a welded joint.
