Microstructure and Piezoelectric Properties of Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3–Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 System Ceramics Doped with Sb2O5 for Ultrasonic Nondestructive Testing Transducer

In this paper, in order to develop the low temperature sintering ceramics for the application of ultrasonic transducer for nondestructive testing, Pb(Ni1/3Nb2/3)O3–Pb(Zr,Ti)O3 [PNN–PZT] substituted with Pb(Mg1/2W1/2)O3 ceramics were manufactured using PbO, CuO and Sb2O5 as sintering aids, and their microstructural, dielectric and piezoelectric properties were investigated. At 0.5 wt% antimony oxide (= Sb2O5) added specimen sintered at 910 [℃], the maximum values of piezoelectric properties were shown, respectively: the dielectric constant (εr) of 1,120, piezoelectric constant (d33) of 379 [pC/N], electromechanical coupling factor (kp) of 0.648, piezoelectric charge constant g33 of 38.2 [mV m/N] and mechanical quality factor (Qm) of 116 were suitable for the device application such as ultrasonic transducer and piezoelectric actuator.
