This paper deals with highly dynamic phase current measurements with anisotropic magneto-resistive (AMR) sensors for electric traction drives. It presents the AMR measurement principle and the used current sensor. Comparisons with LEM current transducers prove the quality of the presented sensors. Especially at low speed and machine standstill, the estimation of the actual rotor position of permanent magnet synchronous machines requires current sensing with high precision and high dynamic. Therefore, current-difference measurements for the position-sensorless INFORM (Indirect Flux Detection by Online Reactance Measurement) control deal as quality criteria for the two current sensing technologies. © 2014, Springer Verlag Wien.
