Investigation of influence of electric field on optical circular dichroism of crude oil

The influence of the electric field on the integral intensity of the long-wavelength band (380-600 nm) in the circular dichroism (CD) spectrum of crude oil and its toluene solutions has been investigated. An increase was observed in the integral intensity of the CD spectrum band as voltage was applied to solutions with the disperse structure. For molecular solutions, no influence of the field on the long-wavelength band of the CD spectrum was found. The result obtained can be explained by ordering the particles of the disperse phase of oil in the electric field.
