Influence of Sintering Process Parameters on Properties and Dimensional Accuracy of MIM17-4PH Stainless Steel

17-4PH stainless steel has high strength and corrosion resistance and is widely used in mechanical engineering, aerospace and medical fields. Due to the difficulty of traditional processing, it is mostly prepared by MIM process. However, the 17-4PH products prepared by MIM technology currently suffer from poor dimensional accuracy and unstable shrinkage rate. Therefore, a new high-performance polyformalin-based binder was used in this paper, and the effect of sintering temperature on the performance and dimensional accuracy of 17-4PH stainless steel was studied. The results show that when the sintering temperature was 1340 °C and the heating rate was 5 °C /min, the specimens had fewer internal pores and more uniform organization, and their dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties were better integrated. Under this sintering condition, the density of the specimen was 98%, hardness was 323 ± 9HV, and tensile strength was 924.85 ± 29.23 MPa, which reached the standard performance level of MIM17-4PH stainless steel, and the dimensional accuracy in the height direction of the specimen was ± 0.15%.
