Use of multiyear field observations of the temperature regime of soil for determination of the design depth of the zero-temperature boundary is examined for heavily developed urban settings where shallow foundations on heaving soils are designed for underground structures and utilities, highways, and airports. © Springer Science+Business Media, Inc. 2007.
