摘要
The Koch Bihar district has the very least concentration of Scheduled Tribe population in West Bengal. Only 0.64 per cent of the total population of Koch Bihar district is Scheduled Tribe. Several multilingual and multicultural tribal communities, such as Santhal, Oraon, Rava, Mech, can be found in various parts of Koch Bihar district. Out of the total of 1132 inhabited village of Koch Bihar district, they are found in only 366 villages. There is much discussion about the tribal population of India. So, it is essential to know the demographic structure of the tribal people to understand their status in our society. The present study attempted to analyse the growth, changes, and spatio-temporal variation in various demographic characteristics of the Scheduled Tribe population in Koch Bihar district. The study has taken into account only six important demographic features of the Scheduled Tribe population of Koch Bihar district, such as the spatial distribution of the Scheduled Tribe population and their density, the growth of the Scheduled Tribe population, the spatio-temporal variation of literacy and the gender disparity in literacy, changes in male–female ratio and its spatial variation, working population categories and its spatial variation, and spatial variation of health demographics. The present research paper is mainly based on secondary data and some primary data have also been collected to analyse the mentioned objectives. Necessary calculations and diagrams have been prepared by the researcher using SPSS and QGIS software.
