With the help of Frieda Fromm-Reichmann, this article presents madness – when dynamically oriented through the transference – as a form of historical research. In the transference, it is equally important to explore, and eventually disclose, the symptoms of the patient and of the analyst in order to modify our supposed objective definitions, which are completely irrelevant in this field.
