Metastatic angiosarcoma of the mandibular gingiva

Angiosarcomas are aggressive soft tissue sarcomas originating from endothelial cells of lymphatic or vascular origin and associated with a poor prognosis. Angiosarcomas spread hematogenously, most frequently to the lungs, followed by the liver and bones, but metastatic oral angiosarcoma is extremely rare. The early manifestation of gingival angiosarcoma is tender, hemorrhagic, exophytic lesion, and gingival angiomas can be misdiagnosed as hyperplastic or reactive lesions such as pyogenic granuloma, hemangioma, vascular epulis, peripheral giant cell granuloma, or odontogenic lesion. We hereby report metastatic angiosarcoma of the mandibular gingiva.
