摘要
Chemical modification of cellulose in solutions of methanesulfonic acid (MSA) is studied. It was found using IR spectroscopy, capillary electrophoresis, and scanning electron microscopy that by treatment of cellulose in 10 and 15 M methanesulfonic acid solutions, cellulose is hydrolyzed to form soluble forms of cellulose (cellobiose) and insoluble products (microcrystalline cellulose and nanocellulose). It was also shown by IR, UV, and Raman spectroscopy that the interaction of OH groups of the studied carbohydrate molecules with MSA leads to the formation of mesylates esters. © 2021, Springer Science+Business Media LLC.
