Opportunities are arising for environmental education to become more integrated into the school curriculum. However, focusing solely on environmental education’s role in the school curriculum ignores a range of factors that affect its efficacy in the majority of the world. A conceptualization of environmental education that takes into account a range of critical factor at the macro, meso, and micro levels is suggested. © 2002 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC.
