A Fast Converge Momentum Dual-Mode Modified Constant Modulus Blind Equalization Algorithm for High-Order QAM Signals

A dual-mode blind channel equalization algorithm for high-order quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals is proposed. The proposed algorithm, named momentum constellation matching error modified constant modulus algorithm (MCME–MCMA), firstly starts the equalization by momentum MCMA algorithm, and then introduces a constellation matching error term when it beginning to converge, which significantly reduces the steady-state mean square error (MSE). An optimized switching-point is provided and confirmed by simulations. Simulations demonstrate that MCME–MCMA improves the convergence rate and decreases the MSE by 5–7 dB for 64-QAM and 256-QAM compared with that of MCMA.
