Technology roadmapping permits industrial strategic and long-range planners to explore the evolution and development of markets for new products and technologies over time. Such roadmaps offer perspectives on integrating new technology with business planning, with an eye to assessing the impact of new technologies and their developing markets. Some of the more important technolgy roadmaps of today focus on the assessment of clean water, effects of pharmaceuticals in the environment, batteries and fuel cells as power sources, environmental applications of enzymes, DNA microarrays, protein recovery from transgenic plants, diesel nitrogen removal, Bt corn cultivation, and the chiral reactivity of chemicals.
