The safety of tunnels is a cross-cutting issue that affects various stakeholders from planning to construction and operation. As part of the qualification project TUSI—Tunnel Safety in Construction and Operation, all project partners were involved in the design of the 9 training modules. The acquired knowledge was implemented by the participants through a practical project. For the visible representation of the professional competence a personal certification according to the requirements of ISO 17024 was carried out. The project laid the foundation for the development of an international university course in the field of tunnel safety. © 2019, The Author(s).
