Physico-chemical investigation on mixed-ligand manganese (II) and iron (II) complexes of 4-methylpiperazine-1-carbodithioate ligand and 1,10-phenanthroline or 2,2′-bipyridyl

Some new mixed-ligand complexes of 4-methylpiperazine-1-carbodithioate (4-MPipzcdt) of the general formula [M(4-MPipzcdtA)a(L)b]X (L = 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) or 2,2′-bipyridyl (bipy); A = H, a = 2, b = 1 where M = Mn(II), X = Cl2, and M = Fe(II), X = SO4; A = nil where X = Cl when M = Mn(II), a = 1, b = 2 and X = nil when M = Mn(II), Fe(II), a = 2, b = 1) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, molar conductance, infrared and electronic absorption and variable temperature Mössbauer spectral and room temperature as well as variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements. Manganese(II) complexes have high spin cis-distorted octahedral structures and all the iron(II) mixed-ligand complexes exhibit spin free–spin paired (5T2g ⇌ 1A1g) equilibrium in distorted octahedral structure.
