Low noise and vibration are required of gear transmissions. Appropriate modification of the lateral tooth surfaces in helical (chevron) cylindrical transmissions significantly reduces the vibration excited by the variable coupling rigidity and discrete (abrupt) tooth loading. © Allerton Press, Inc. 2009.
