In November 2020 the existing web application IRIS-Online (https://www.geologie.ac.at/services/webapplikationen/iris-interaktives-rohstoffinformationssystem) was extended by a new module which provides open access to geological information about natural deposits of raw materials for construction in Austria. IRIS Online has now been upgraded with information about deposits of gravel, sand, clay, and natural stone in Austria. The implementation of this forward-looking basic research tool is generated to serve the provision with these raw materials in the future. The geographically arranged districts of the raw materials are displayed on the geological maps and are already available on the website of the Geological Survey of Austria. Every district is outlined by the general characteristics of the comprised rocks and the deposits, the raw materials’ application, the geological age, possible individual features, outcrops within the district, and a selected reference list. A connected data-layer shows the locations of the relevant outcrops. Additionally, all layers of the hitherto existing IRIS-Online may be connected. We plan to complete the still lacking descriptions and amend the performance with layers of special soft rock related maps as thickness of the deposits and information on renewable gravel deposits. © 2021, Austrian Society for Metallurgy of Metals (ASMET) and Bergmännischer Verband Österreich (BVÖ).
