摘要
Tympanostomy tubes remain the most commonly performed operation globally. They facilitate drainage of middle ear fluid, direct delivery of ototopical antibiotics as well as other therapies, and reduce the risk of complications related to severe Eustachian tube dysfunction. They remain an invaluable tool especially in children at risk of speech and language delay. In this chapter, we will review the current indications for tube placement, risks, benefits, and controversies related to their use as well as innovations in the types of tympanostomy tubes currently in use.
