The development of a production organism up to the finished product comprises innumerable optimization and analysis steps. The use of microplate tests allows 96 conditions to be examined in parallel. The use of a flexible microplate reader for analysis also covers a variety of tests. We show how these possibilities were used to develop the moss Physcomitrella patens for production purposes. © 2020, Springer-Verlag GmbH.
