Experimental study on controlling the initiation of freezing of supercooled water

The effect of the various external factors on the freezing of supercooled water was investigated, experimentally. The external factors selected in this report were, collision of solid against solid in supercooled water, rubbing solid against solid in supercooled water, applying electric charge to the supercooled water, convection, vibration and various kinds of shocks. It was found that collision of solid against solid, rubbing solid against solid in supercooled water and applying electric charge exert the supercooled water to freeze. On the other hand, convection, vibration and non-contacting shock have no effect on the freezing of supercooled water. It was found that the probability of freezing depends upon the collision force, frequency of rubbing, its amplitude, value of D.C. voltage applied, size of electrode, the distance between two electrodes and the degree of supercooling. It was concluded that the freezing of supercooled water can be controlled by applying the various methods introducing in this report.
