Post-irradiation dizziness in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients

Fifty patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), post-irradiated, who complained of vertigo/dizziness were subjected to a battery of audiological and equilibrium function testing. The results revealed that post irradiation dizziness occurred after a mean interval of 6 years after irradiation. Most (72%) of the NPC patients with dizziness were resulted from otitis media and its sequelae. Therefore, eradication of inflammation in ears, nose, and throat field may be beneficial to get rid of post-irradiation dizziness.
