摘要
In asking "Who's doing it right?", this essay explores three myths about public research universities: that no change occurs without managerial initiative, that managers focus fragmented academic units and loyalties, and that they rationalize budgeting and planning. Based on department head interviews at four universities, Rhoades challenges these myths, suggests alternative premises and guides for managerial action, and offers principles for strategically focusing universities.
