摘要
Courses in computer networks require laboratories to be equipped with all the basic networking components, including: servers, client computers, cabling, switches, routers, bridges, etc. In the past, this requirement created a barrier for external students who could not access on-campus facilities. The concept of virtual networks provides a solution for students who want to study computer networks externally. A single personal computer, plus Virtual Machine software, such as VMware, allows students to create a variety of network configurations on a single computer. The paper outlines the concept and educational benefits of virtual computer networks for external studies.
