摘要
Requirements for commercial oil and gas drilling and production operations have established an opportunity for utilizing advanced composite materials in various economically beneficial products. Hydril Company has lead a joint venture collaboration to design a family of spoolable composite tubing products, and to develop manufacturing equipment and processes applicable to those designs. This project is industry-led in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Commerce's Advanced Technology Program, administered by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Work conducted through this highrisk research project in addition to results from two previous industry JIP projects; has resulted in the construction of a high rate continuous manufacturing pilot plant. Product design technology and manufacturing operations have been developed to the point where several prototype products are undergoing field application evaluation. The manufacturing process and related equipment are described and an early stage report is provided on application experience of some products that have good commercial opportunities.
