The discoveries of Colossal Magnetoresistance has led to a renewed interest in the transition metal oxides which are Mott insulators and become metals when doped. The parent compound of colossal magnets e.g. LaMnO3 is a Mott-Hubbard and charge transfer antiferromagnetic insulator. The magnetic properties of this compound has been studied using a theory which goes beyond mean field theory. This theory includes fluctuations and explains the experimental results better than the mean field theory.
