Varietal reaction of brinjal to foot rot (Sclerotium rolfsii Sacc.)

Incidences of foot rot as well as varietal reactions to the diease at early flowering and peak fruiting stages of ten varieties of brinjal were recorded during Kharif-I to Kharif-II (1996) seasons under field conditions. Plants at the two growth stages were inoculated by the pathogen (Srlerotium rolfsii Sacc.) grown on moist oats. All the varieties were infected with high per cent infection (87-100%) at early flowering stage than per cent plant infected within the range of (60-100%) at peak fruiting stage. Varieties varied in per cent mortality at both stages. Among the varieties Mirsarai-1 was resistant, Mirsarai-2 moderately susceptible and all other varieties were susceptible at early flowering stage. At peak fruiting stage, vars. Dohazari and Singnath were resistant, Khotkhotia was tolerant. Uttara. Mirsarai-1 and Mirsarai-2 were moderately susceptible. The other four varieties were found susceptible.
