摘要
Sustainable building practices are rooted in the need for reliable information on the long-term performance and, more specifically, the expected service-life of building materials, components, and assemblies. This need is ever more evident given the anticipated effects of climate change on the built environment and the many governmental initiatives world-wide focused on ensuring that structures are not only resilient, but also can maintain their resilience over the long term. Collectively, the activities organised around the meetings, as well as the symposium contributions themselves, will provide a useful review of methods and techniques used in assessing the long-term performance and service life of building envelope components and assemblies. As such, it is hoped that those that have contributed to these proceedings, as well as those who in the future may take the time to examine its contents, will gain an understanding of the issues, a knowledge of the techniques, some insight into the research, and useful discernment of effectual technologies. © 2019, Canadian Science Publishing.
