Reduction of gold(III) by ammonia in aqueous solutions at 150°C

摘要
The reduction of gold(III) by ammonia in aqueous alkali at 150degreesC was studied by coulometric titration, X-ray powder diffraction, and chemical analysis. The reduction process is described by the equation Au3+ + NH3 + 3OH(-) --> Au-0 + 0.5N(2) + 3H(2)O. The hydroxide ion does not reduce gold(III) in strongly alkaline media at 150degreesC.
