A striking new species of phoridae (Diptera) from a termite nest (Isoptera: Termitidae) in Malawi

Thaumatoxena darlingtonae Disney sp. n. is described from a female collected from a nest of Macrotermes subhyalinus in Malawi; a female of T. andreinii is reported from a nest of M.. subhyalinus; Termitophilomyia brevicollaris is reported from nests of the same Odontotermes species as the host of the type series. The extraordinary termitophilous genus Thaumatoxena Breddin & Borner was revised by Disney & Kistner (1992) and a key to the eight known species provided. A female collected by JPECD proves to be a new species, which is described below by RHLD and records of two other termitophilous species from Malawi are also noted.
