Fractal characterization of backscattered ultrasonic signals

摘要
The concept of fractal geometry is introduced to characterize discrete time domain ultrasonic signals scattered from polycrystalline copper and single crystal potassium chloride using pulse echo method. The fractal dimension of these scattered signals were evaluated by the box counting method. These signals possess different fractal dimensions. The observed variation of the fractal dimensions is interpreted in the light of variation of scattering mechanism in these two different materials.
