Inhibition of the pitting corrosion of 2024 alloy by 1, 2, 3-benzotriazole

摘要
The inhibitive effect of 1, 2, 3-benzotriazole (BTAH) on pitting corrosion of 2024 alloy in chloride-containing sulfate solution has been investigated. BTAH was found to influence pit nucleation. In the presence of BTAH, the pitting potential was shifted towards more anodic value. Statistical analysis of the pit nucleation times has shown that, in a wide potential range, the pit nucleation rates were divided by more than a factor 5. Moreover, the pits were mainly observed in the matrix in the presence of this compound. It was concluded that the inhibition mechanism of BTAH was based on the interaction between this organic molecule and the copper-rich coarse intermetallic particles.
