TEM observation of interfaces between (Nd,Eu,Gd)2 BaCuO5 secondary phase and the (Nd,Eu,Gd)Ba2Cu3Oy matrix in OCMG-processed (Nd,Eu,Gd)-Ba-Cu-O

Microstructural observations of oxygen-controlled-melt-growth (OCMG) processed (Nd,Eu,Gd)Ba2Cu3Oy ''NEG-123" /(Nd,Eu,Gd)(2)BaCuO5 "NEG-211" samples have been conducted using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). High-resolution TEM (HRTEM) images demonstrate that the microstructural defects that might act as pinning centres were not observed around the NEG-211 secondary phase particles. Furthermore, the 211/123 interface was found to be very clean and sharp.
