The contribution introduces the day's work by focusing on the innovative elements of the project pursued by Massimo Montella after his entry into university. The initiatives carried out and hoped for in the didactic and scientific fields are discussed, including the commitment to enhance research and its more incisive impact on society. Some reflections on the legacy of the “Montellian project” close the work.
