The temporal glands of an approximately 40 years old, female African elephant have been investigated by means of gross anatomical section and histological staining techniques. The tubuloalveolar temporal glands are located lateral of the temporal muscle, medial and dorsal of the zygomatic arch and caudal of the orbital ligament. The ventral part of the gland is embedded in a thick layer of fibrous connective tissue. The mean secretory duct is extended forming a sinus.
