摘要
Septic arthritis, particularly when caused by group B beta-hemolytic streptococci, can have devastating effects on adult patients. Patients at increased risk are those with one or more comorbidities, such as diabetes, carcinoma, or chronic liver disease, and those receiving immunosuppressive drugs: Even a few days' delay in diagnosis and treatment can result in significant morbidity. A high index of suspicion for group B streptococcal infection and prompt arthrocentesis when joint effusion is evident can help produce more positive outcomes.
